The Self Portrait

I did something yesterday that I have not really done before, well seriously anyway. I took a self portrait. I decided that I needed a new picture of myself, since I have lost 40 lbs. in the last year or so.

It was a very interesting project. I began to look within in a way I have not done before. I found myself doing what I do when I take landscapes or travel photography. I try to uncover more than the obvious, I try put things in context and relay what I feel inside as I make the photograph. It was the same with the self portrait. I looked at myself as a “subject”, tried to determine how I wanted to portray myself and then questioned what I wanted to show about myself that was beyond my physical appearance.

You can see the result by going to my biography page.

Before you know it, weeks have passed

It has been a while since I posted here.   I have been working on preparing more photographs to add to the galleries here.  I have also been working on the website of the AuSable Artisan Village.

The AuSable Artisan Village (AAV)  is a non-profit arts organization headquartered in Grayling, Michigan.  The goal of the  AAV is to bring to the Grayling area:

  • the finest artwork, made by Michigan Artists,
  • Art Education for adults and children,
  • a variety of  live performances,
  • and, help nurture economic growth.

I am so pleased to be a part of this organization.   You can see what is going on at AAV by going to their website at

The new Thomas Dean Images site is launched!

It has been an interesting few weeks.  Today, the new Thomas Dean Images site is officially launched.  http://www.thomasdeanimages.com

The launch is the culmination of a complete redesign of the website, a change of internet hosting companies and lots of work behind the scenes.

The new site would not be possible without the support I received from my new hosting provider, Ipage and my wordpress theme provider, Photocrati.  Their support groups were at the ready to give me advice on the best way to implement the new site.  I am very thankful to them.

Even though it has been a lot of work,  I have to say, it has all been worth it!  I really like the new design.  I hope you do too.
